James R. Hoffa became a Teamster member in 1934 and served as General President for 14 years, and, in recognition of his tireless service to the Union and its members, was honored as General President Emeritus for life. At the November 1999 General Executive Board meeting, General Secretary-Treasurer C. Thomas Keegel presented a resolution to establish the new scholarship fund. This site describes the James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship Fund (JRHMSF) and outlines eligibility requirements and application procedures. The 2012/2013 scholarship for high school seniors begins in November 2011 with a deadline of March 31, 2012.
The 2011 Essay Contest will begin in July 2012.
The James R Hoffa Memorial Scholarship Fund is an independent organization established and registered as a tax exempt entity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Fund is established solely to provide scholarships to the children and dependents of members of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, and contributions to the Fund are deductible as charitable contributions to the extent permitted by law. The International Union provides certain in kind services to the Fund, such as this portion of the union web site, in order to benefit members and their children and dependents.

“The Teamsters license plate not only reminds everyone on the road of the strength of our union, but it offers Illinois drivers a special designation to call their own,” said John T. Coli, President of Joint Council 25. “At no cost, Teamsters and their families can help guarantee Illinois residents recognize our union on every street and highway statewide.”
After Joint Council 25 receives 1,500 completed applications, the Secretary of State’s office will begin producing the specialty license plates. Applicants will be notified when plates become available. It will only cost $15 for applicants to pick up their final license plates; anyone who registers after the first 1,500 applications have been submitted will have to pay $40.
“All you have to do is fill out your application and return it to the Joint Council; it’s that simple,” said Coli. “It only takes a minute to complete the process and show your Teamster Pride.”
Please return completed applications to the Joint Council. Completed forms may be faxed to (847) 292-1412 or e-mailed to Will Petty at will@chicagoteamsters.org.

A majority of all funds raised by the specialty license plates will be donated to the Teamsters Joint Council 25 Charitable Trust.
